When is the outside of the library going to be fixed?

Good Question! We'd like to know the answer to that one too. We have been told that the library will be getting handicapped doors to replace the broken front window exit door which is now held together with duct tape. We have also been told that the library exterior will be fixed and painted this summer...Hopefully the broken steps will be included. We have not been given exact time lines for either of these projects.

You students do deserve better and, while we have no control over the building repairs, we have tried to make the interior of the library appealing. I'm glad you noticed.

My best advice is to watch where you're walking and don't try to go through the broken door. Of course, you could always enter through the lower level entrance and work off some calories by climbing the stairs to the main library floor.

Intersystem loan is expensive in terms of time and money. By mediating the requests at the library Information Desk, we can tell the student if the book is here in Maui or find another book or source that would serve as well for the information needed.

Why did the library cut its hours?

We need staff to keep the library open. When our evening and Saturday Library Assistant and our Circulation Library Assistant left for better jobs on the mainland, our administration deemed their positions to be "non-critical" positions that did not have to be filled immediately ... if at all. There were campus budgetary problems that contributed to this decision. As a result, without evening and Saturday staff, we had to cut evening and Saturday hours.

As of FY 2006/07, the positions will be restored in time for the fall semester. At that time we will restore the library hours.

I'm afraid that we can't do anything about your roommates or their drinking problem. Have you thought of changing roommates? Or getting them to drink something in a softer plastic bottle? Earplugs might also work.

Why is the library so cold?

It is too cold.... but we are working on it. The college has hired an engineer to figure out how to moderate the temperature while keeping the library cool enough to prevent mold bloom on our books and materials.

Best suggestion...until the temperature is under control... bring a sweater, a hankie and a pair of gloves.
